Claremorris Golf Club,
Castlemacgarrett, Claremorris, County Mayo.

Claremorris's newly redesigned 18 hole parkland golf course is situated
just 1.5km from Claremorris town and just 15 minutes from Knock
International Airport. Designed by the late Tom Craddock, the course is
open from dawn until dusk all year round. Golf was first played in
Claremorris in 1917 at the Race Course and a few years later suitable
ground was found in Castlemagarrett and rented from Lord Oranmore &
Browne. In 1961 the estate was taken over by the land commission and
subsequently purchased by Claremorris Golf Club. From the new clubhouse a
beautiful panorama unfolds itself. The undulating fairways traversed by a
stream, the ancient ash, oak and elm trees, the pine wood, the spinneys
with the Partry Mountains in the background make it a golfers paradise.
With wide, well mown fairways, very little rough and well bunkered sand
based greens, it requires pinpoint precision approach shots.
